A member of the senior leadership team taking lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection, including online safety and filtering and monitoring. Where you have any concern about a child, the DSL should be informed immediately.
It is a matter for individual schools and colleges as to whether they choose to have one or more deputy DSLs. Any deputy should be trained to the same standard as the DSL. Where the DSL is unavailable, you should share your concerns with the deputy.
Governing bodies and proprietors have a strategic leadership responsibility for their school or college's safeguarding arrangements and must ensure they comply with duties under legislation. They should have a senior board-level lead for safeguarding.
