Introduction

All staff should know what to do if a child tells them they are being abused, neglected or exploited. All staff should also be confident in referring any concerns they have about a child, no matter how big or small.

This section will explain how to respond to a disclosure and briefly outline what could happen next.

Important: Children may not feel ready or know how to tell someone that they are being abused, exploited, or neglected, and/or they may not recognise their experiences as harmful. Staff should remain alert to indicators even without a direct disclosure.
